After months of wrestling with satin and taking seams in, and letting other seams out, we’ve finally got my dress together. It was such an experience ‐ I think mum and her dressmaking tutor, Helen, are superhuman! They’ve turned a mere idea (which I couldn’t find anywhere in the shops) into the perfect wedding dress, and I can’t thank them enough.
My task is to do is the beading. Luckily that’s something I really enjoy, so it’s going to be fun finishing it off. Now all I have to do is make sure I look my best in it…
During the last few months, I’ve spent some time getting myself into shape. Although I’m not particularly unhappy with my weight, I think every bride‐to‐be likes to shed those few extra pounds. After all, if I’m not in good shape for my wedding day, I probably never will be. There’s a great ‘Health and Beauty’ section here on Confetti, and it’s a brilliant place to start. It has loads of good ideas for getting that feel‐good buzz.
I started a few months ago by eating sensibly. I’ve been eating much more fruit and veg ‐ the fresh stuff is always tasty, and it’s done wonders for my skin and hair. I’ve also started drinking loads of water ‐ if nothing else to keep those stress headaches away! When you’re busy, it’s so easy to get dehydrated.
Since we don’t have many funds, luxury gym membership wasn’t an option for me, but there were lots of other things I could do. I found the best way of getting fit was walking ‐ not necessarily hill walking or hiking (although that is more fun when I have the time) but simply marching hard wherever I go. Whether I’m shopping in town, walking to my friend’s house, or just going between buildings at work, I always try and walk as fast as I can, and it does make a difference. If you’re more of a die‐hard fitness enthusiast, you could try workout videos. There’s such a broad range in the shops, and something to suit everyone. I found videos of straightforward step aerobics, dance sessions, yoga, and I even found a Bhangra workout video, which is so much fun. I’m learning a new dance form, and getting fit!
I think whatever you do, you have to make sure you don’t focus too much on one aspect of yourself. Be positive, keep active, and give your body a treat by eating well. Even if you don’t lose loads of weight, or your thighs aren’t absolutely rock solid and toned, you’ll still look stunning if you’ve given yourself a boost. And try not to let the stress of planning the wedding get to you too much; otherwise you’ll lose too much weight and end up looking like your dress is on a coat‐hanger, not your shoulders!
On your wedding day, the only way you’ll shine is if you’re happy and positive. Go on ‐ love yourself! You’re allowed to, you’re the bride. (And after all, hubby‐to‐be loves you too!)
