11 To see or not to see – Gill’s Wedding Diary

As the wedding fast approaches (aargh!) I’m faced with a dilemma, do I see on the day or not? By this I’m talking about wearing glasses, contact lenses or just squinting! I wear glasses nearly every day, but normally whenever I go out I take them off and just cope without. This usually works fine until I see someone I think I know across the room and walk all the way over to greet them, only to discover when I’m close enough to see properly that I’ve actually never met them in my life!.

Although I’m pretty sure I’ll be able to work out which one Mike is! I don’t want to be squinting all the way down the aisle at him, or at the rest of the guests for that matter, for the whole day! So, I don’t want to wear glasses, but I’m not really able to manage without, which leaves me with only one possible option ‐ contact lenses. Consequently, as I write this I’m a week into my contact lenses trial and have just about managed to wear them for a full ten hours!

Of course I couldn’t see properly for the entire ten hours, but at least I managed to keep them in… my eyes seem to keep watering when I wear them, so if I do wear them on the day, it’s going to look like I’m crying, but I’m sure I’ll shed a tear or two anyway!

The wedding rings

wedding ringsWe have both decided that we want to wear wedding rings, but neither of us fancy having to traipse round hundreds of jewellers looking for the right ones. So we found a company that comes to your house together with several hundred rings to look at and try on. This way, we can basically ‘design our own’ using their collection as inspiration. We also decided that we didn’t want to get ‘his and hers’ rings, so we have decided to get something a little bit different, in other words something that we like individually, rather than picking something that we may both have to compromise on just so that they match!

The rings were delivered a week ago and I must admit I’ve already tried mine on several times! My married friends said that as soon as I got my ring I’d want to wear it all the time, which I laughed at, but it’s so true, I don’t want to take it off! It took me a while to get used to seeing a different ring on my engagement finger, and having two rings on this finger seems really strange. I’ll need to make sure that I give my engagement ring a good clean before the big day as my wedding ring is making it look rather dirty!!

So the next ‘to do’ item is the gift list, I really can’t wait to start compiling that……..!
