Now that it’s finally the “year of the wedding” things are really heating up. RT and I have had a brilliant few weeks, firstly on holiday then on to Mum and Paul’s for Christmas and finally back to London for New Year. The holiday was an ideal time to really talk about what still needs to be done for the wedding and how we want to do it. RT played golf on his own one day with me driving the buggy ‐ this was the perfect opportunity to write copious lists ‐ guest list, “To Do” list, rehearsal lunch and my favourite, “nice ideas”. It actually proved to be the perfect way of going about things. By putting it down on paper we didn’t need to think too much about it or spend out time worrying about just what needs doing!
Over the next month there is a lot which can be crossed off the list ‐ the invitations are being ordered tomorrow (I’m really pleased with those) we have a good idea of the invitation we want for the Sunday party which will be easy to organise. I need to go back to the dress shop at the end of January to finally decide on colour ‐ more difficult than I thought. But, before I do that I want to get rid of the few extra pounds that I’ve put on over Christmas and the holiday ‐ now there’s a depressing thought!
We’re going to see our friends Jo and Nick this weekend who are getting married on May 4th. Jo is talking about having their banns read and printing of the Order of Service. Whilst we’ve been talking about weddings it’s been interesting to see what things are important to people and what they can live without. RT and I are completely unfazed about the wedding cake, so much so we’re thinking about not having one. To me it seems to one of those things which you spend another few hundred pounds on for a photo opportunity and something, which no one would really miss if it wasn’t there. However, I was telling another friend about this who is horrified at the thought we may not have one ‐ she insists she always eats the cake at weddings. For now it’s on the back burner ‐ and if need be we’ll order her an individual one!
In a couple of weeks I’m taking the day off work to meet Mum at the hotel we’re having the reception at. We want to talk over a couple of things with them, how the day will flow and menu ideas. This is also “d‐day” for choosing the colour of the flowers. A lot of people seem to know exactly what colour they want almost before anything else. I have it narrowed down to 2 and thought we’d made a final decision, but Mum keeps going back to our original idea. We’re going to match the flowers to the bridesmaids dress, so once we see the hotel again we’ll be able to know what will look best and make a final decision ‐ I hope!
I’ve booked the hotels now for all our American guests which I hope will be OK. Some of them are staying in the reception hotel and some are staying in another hotel two doors down. Both places are older than the hills so I’m sure they’ll enjoy that and I know the rooms at our hotel are stunning. I hope they’ll all be comfortable and enjoy it. Although we’re getting a discount on all the rooms, they still are pretty expensive and whilst they are beautiful rooms not everybody will want to spend that kind of money. We’ve left it up to people to decide where they want to stay.
RT and I have booked ourselves into the honeymoon suite for Valentine’s weekend, which I can’t wait for. We’ve decided to leave the reception and go and stay somewhere else on our wedding night ‐ we both thought it would be more special and as we’re seeing everyone the next day it won’t be as though we’re missing out on anything. This way we get the best of both worlds. It also gives us a chance to try the hotel restaurant ‐ it might sound a bit risky but we’ve not actually eaten there and I’m sure it’ll be lovely…well here’s hoping!
