21 Lots of food and wine – Henrietta’s Wedding

We had the most amazing time at The Bay Tree last weekend ‐ it really was perfect.

We drove up on the Saturday and checked into the bridal suite (well why not?) before walking into the village for lunch. After that it was back to the room to start the serious business of the weekend ‐ testing the food and drink! The first bottle of champagne they recommended went down so well it wasn’t long before we ordered a second which was to set the scene for the perfect evening, apart from one minor hiccup. The bathroom in the suite came with a jacuzzi which I thought was a great idea. One word of warning to brides on their wedding nights; don’t put in too much bubble bath! When I went to check on the bath, the floor was covered wall to wall in about a foot of lovely, soft bubbles! After much giggling and mopping we were able to enjoy the jacuzzi whilst thanking our lucky stars that the floor was made of stone.

We went down for dinner in the dining room which is where dinner will be on the evening of our wedding. Whilst we have a fairly clear idea of what we want to serve, we spent ages pouring over the menu, taking in every detail and mulling over ideas. We each tried a glass of the white wine which they recommend we have on the day, but it was so bad we couldn’t drink it! Thank goodness we tried it ‐ our guests would be busy pouring it discreetly into plant pots on the day. We ordered our meal both sticking fairly closely to our ideas for the day and I have to say it was all absolutely superb. I, from a girls point of view, was thrilled that it was all presented beautifully. RT, from a boys point of view, could barely eat quickly enough he thought it was so delicious. With dinner we had a bottle of the red wine they recommended which was lovely, so apart from the white we definitely know what drinks we’ll be serving. They’ve also given us another five ideas for the first and main courses based on what we think we’ll like, all of which sound lovely.

After our main course we moved into the bar and sat in front of the fire, enjoying coffee and pudding and talking about what a perfect wedding we are going to have. The bedroom we were in was stunning. The bed itself was a tiny four poster (about 500 years old) and there was a separate sitting room and a massive bathroom. All the furniture was antique and you really felt like you’d stepped back in time. We struggled to get up for breakfast the next day, determined to experience everything our guests will that weekend (although after all the exertion we did have to have another lie down!). Before we called in to the pub for lunch where we are having our rehearsal lunch, we dropped the re‐printed invitations off for Mum and Paul, who are now going to write addresses etc. before they get sent out at the end of March. All in all a most memorable weekend!
