DIY Bridesmade Dress

Back in August our budget friendly bride Caroline put her DIY touch to more than just her wedding favours, she used her savvy DIY know how to create a new look for her bridesmaids dresses.

Caroline: “I bought the basic dresses (second hand!) and luckily one of the bridesmaid’s mum altered them and added the beautiful lace straps and sash. I chose different colours to fit with our theme, and the lace pulled them all together. I was so happy with the result!”

DIY Aisle Decor

Decorating your ceremony is a sure way to give your guests a sneak peak of your reception décor. Which is why we fell head over heels for our bride Gemma’s stunning shabby chic aisle decorations. Using a combination of tea light candles, birdcages and rose petals to decorate the aisle our resourceful bride was able to enhance the natural quality of the barn.

Gemma: “To reflect who we really are we aimed for personalised shabby chic, with our initials R&G on confetti cones, invitations etc. We wanted to keep the rustic barn feel, with long tables and space. We choose cream, periwinkle blue, fuchsia pink and lilac displayed in our handmade bunting and flowers.”

DIY Placecards

This year we had two wonderful and playful placecard ideas! The first came from Caroline and Charles, who pushed their DIY creativity to the limit and gave us the wonderful idea of using scrabble pieces for place cards. It’s a fun and easy, which is why we love it.

Caroline: “There was no set colour, but a mixture of jewel and pastel tones of blue, green and purple. This made it a lot easier to get the laid back rustic fete theme we were looking for, as nothing had to match exactly and I was able to source a lot of the decorations second hand from bridal forums.”

And our second treat of the year came from Catherine and Andrew who came up with the genius idea of using Lego characters to guide their guests to their seats. We love the array of different characters, from a ninja to superman! Again its fun and easy to recreate; and an lovely way to share you personalities and sense of humor with your loved ones.

DIY Wedding Table Decor

When it comes to your wedding décor styling the venue with decorations you’ve made yourself is the ideal way to show off who you are and what you can achieve together as a united couple. Our two particular favourites from this year come from Jessica and Justin’s Mexican themed wedding and Laura and Matt’s pink polka dot themed reception.

Jessica and Justin brought the fun and colour of Mexico to a pier in Torquay. With the help of their family, they were able to transform the venue using an array of bright coloured arrangements, homemade favours and an impressive use of coloured tissue.

Jessica: “Mum had made mini piñatas, paper flowers, papel picado and the centre pieces. My Aunty and Uncle brought decorations from Mexico including mini sombreros with our names on, maracas, table runners and Mexican sweets. We also had some piñatas to smash which was a lot of fun!”

Our bride Laura, a designer, put her eye for detail at work when bringing her beautiful pink and polka dot themed wedding to life. Decorative jam jars are still one of our favourite DIY centrepiece ideas and one we know will carry on in to the New Year; which is why we loved how Laura used a range of jam jars and lace to create adorable centerpieces.

Laura: “Being a designer, the theme and colours were very important to me, and I wanted the style to be carried through everything from the invitations to the room decorations and cake. The overall colour theme was pink, pink and more pink and the design theme was hearts and polka dots. I wanted to make as many of the decorations for the day myself, and with some help of the bridal party, they looked fantastic!

DIY Photobooth

No wedding is complete without wedding entertainment. This year we have come across amazing DIY ideas that will entertain your guests and help you save a few pennies. We’re going to start with Catherine and Andrews wonderful DIY photo booth, their use of vintage inspired frames and a white sheet will help you stay within budget as well as achieving the same results as a hired photo booth. Entertaining and a money saving tip at the same time can’t be a bad thing.

DIY Toasting Marshmallows

Who doesn’t love toasting marshmallow? Instead of a candy buffet, which can add up, entertain your guests with an open fire and marshmallow just like our amazing couple Hanna and Billy. The warm sweet treat is perfect for an autumn/winter wedding.
