Date of proposal
25/12/06
How old were you both when you got engaged?
I was 22, Ross was 23.
Who proposed?
Ross
How did your partner (or you) propose?
We were staying with his parents, and decided to open our Christmas presents with them just after midnight on Christmas Day. There was one present that Ross kept back from me and said we would open in our bedroom. I sat on the bed and he kneeled on the floor in front of me while I opened the box. I knew he was getting me a ring, but I had no clue that it would be "that" kind of ring! Still unaware that it was to be an engagement ring, I tried it on my middle finger. Ross told me no, and slid it onto the fourth finger of my left hand. "But that’s my wedding finger," I said. By this point my heart was racing as I realised what was happening. "Yeah I know," Ross replied casually, "will you marry me?" It took me several minutes to reply as I was in a state of shock, but then the tears came and I whimpered "yes!" We had only been going out just over a year when he proposed so I had no idea that I would be an engaged woman this soon. Even so, for a while I had imagined spending the rest of my life with him and now, one year on, I’m still over the moon that I will be!
Who did you share the news of your engagement with first?
His mum & dad, as they were in the next room.
Describe your ring.
It’s a beautiful princess-cut diamond on a thin white gold band.
Did you help choose the ring?
No, but I couldn’t have chosen it better myself!
Will your partner wear an engagement ring as well?
I don’t think so.
Did you have an engagement party?
No. We let the news of the engagement sink in a bit and in the end waited a bit too long to have a party. It’s not something we both deemed essential anyway – this way we’ve saved up more money for the wedding.
When do you plan to marry?
We’ve booked our wedding for Saturday, 24th July 2010. We decided to have it so far away as we are saving to buy a house together as well as the wedding.
What are you looking forward to the most about planning a wedding?
Absolutely EVERYTHING. I won’t regret a second of it as I’ve been dreaming of this day all my life, but I’d imagine going shopping for my wedding dress will be the most fun bit for me.
