Claire and Olivers real life wedding

Claire and Oliver’s Real Life St Mary’s Church, Woodkirk Wedding

When was your wedding?

01/09/2007

How and when did you meet?

We first met in 1997 at school when I saw him. I liked him straight away. He didnt want to go out with anyone older and I found out 5 years later my friend had pestered him the whole time we were at school. In 2002 we both started the same college within six months we were together and inseparable.

How old are you both?

I’m 22, Oliver is 21

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?

At my sisters 18th at the end of the night he and I got up to sing ‘The usual paradise” by the DashBoard Light on karaoke. When it got to the bit where I sing, “Will you take me away? Will you make me your wife” the music cut off and I turned, and Oliver was down on one knee holding a ring box. I cried and said yes! It was great, all our family and friends were there to share our special moment. He had even asked my dad as well. Apparently they drank a bottle of whisky and stayed up till 5am talking about me!

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?

Oliver played golf during the day with some family and friends, they dressed up in high socks and flat caps. It was hilarious! I went out with 26 family and friends to a restaurant then onto a few clubs and night clubs. We all had matching t-shirts and bunny ears, it was great fun.

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?

Oliver is very laid back and tends to just go with the flow but I wanted him to be involved as it was his wedding too. We chose the colour scheme together and he gave the ok with lots of decisions.

Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?

Yes, I used the planner.

Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?

I visited the store in Leeds and purchased some personalised gift bags, groom boxers, and disposable cameras

Religious

Where did you hold your ceremony?

St Mary’s Church, Woodkirk, Tingley

Where did you hold your reception?

Thornfield House Masonic lodge in Morley, Leeds

Did you have any special wedding transport?

I had a Silver Cloud Rolls Royce for me and my father to the church, then for me and Oliver to reception. The guys and the bridesmaids had an old vintage style limosine. It was amazing and all the guests commented on it.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?

90 to the day then a further 50 to the evening.

Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

We chose lilac and silver. We had JJ’s balloons in Morley do our balloon decoration with Cloud 9 balloons and swags and bows Everyone was speechless when they walked in the room.

How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?

We had small horse and carriages with lilac ribbon and silver rings – these were a bargain from ebay £2 each. We had crystals scattered and heart shaped rose petals all over every table.

Did you give your guests favours?

Yes the horse and carriages with mints or chocolates inside.

Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?

I had artificial flowers as I wanted to keep them and I’m not a massive flower lover. I had lilac and white roses with ribbon and a white carnation in the middle as that was my great grandad’s favourite flower and it’s tradition in our family

What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?

The venue did the catering, they were amazing we could have anything we wanted. We had a choice of soup and roll, prawn cocktail or melon and summer fruits. The main course was good old Sunday lunch beef or chicken with yorkshire puddings, vegetables and potatoes, then a choice of desserts like chocolate cake, apple pie, and cheesecake.

What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?

A friend of Oliver’s mum made our cake – Pauline Elizabeth she makes them for a living and used to have a shop, but just works from home now. It was three tier octagon shape with heart shaped icing with lilac and glitter decoration.

Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?

We had a DJ at the evening with karaoke. People just didnt want to leave!

Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?

We had out gift list with Argos.

Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?

We spent our first night at home. We hadn’t moved into our house yet so we went there, then to the airport the next morning. We went to Disneyworld for our honeymoon, it was a gift from Oliver’s parents

What was your most memorable moment of the day?

Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Oliver waiting with tears running down his face. He told me I looked stunning. It was the best moment of my life!

Did you experience any “nightmare” moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?

I was really nervous in the morning with a stomach ache, I’m not normally like that. Oliver was calm and collected and he is usually the one who is nervous.

Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?

Take everything in! I wish I remembered more from the church but I remember the important bits. At the reception Oliver and I went for a short walk just take everything in. I’m really glad as it was nice to get away from the hype and spend some time on our own.
