Real Engagement – Rachel & Chris

When your best friend gives the guy in the bar her “nod of approval”, it’s best to take note! This worked out very well for Capital FM’s Rachel – he put a ring on it in February, and was so nervous he forgot to wait for her answer! So far, the couple know one thing – they want to get married somewhere green and picturesque! Happy planning from Confetti!

What is your first name?

Rachel

Who is the groom?

Chris

When is your wedding?

Still to be confirmed!

How and when did you meet?

We met on a Friday night in Lammars in Manchester. It was the last week in September 2011 when it had been really hot all week, so I went out with my friend Sara on the Friday night in the Northern Quarter.

Chris went past me three times smiling and I was literally thinking ‘What’s he doing?’. Then he came over, introduced himself and asked for my number, which I told him no that I’d take his, cause Sara was nodding giving me the seal of approval. I just thought, oh whatever! But Sara encouraged me to text him and we went out the following Wednesday, back to Lammars. It just went from there…

How old are you both?

I’m 35 and he’s 37.

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?

He proposed to me on Sunday 3rd of February in San Marco in Blackrod, with Chris being a Bolton lad he kept it local! I thought he seemed a bit nervous, we were looking at the menu and I asked him if he liked veal and he said ‘I’m not into fish’!

After the starter he was a bit waffly then he popped the question and he was that nervous he forgot to wait for my answer, which was obviously yes! The restaurant were in on it and they brought me over champagne and a dozen roses that Chris had organised.

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?

Chris seems to think he’s going abroad for a week, I’ve not made any plans but I’ll definitely be celebrating my last night of freedom with all my favourite girlies!

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?

We’ve only just started.

Are you having bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what will they wear?

Yes. In terms of what they’ll wear I think it’ll be a mutual decision. I don’t think it’s fair to put people in a dress that don’t suit them. They’ve got to be comfortable. Maybe it can be the same colour but a different style.

Are you having a civil or religious ceremony?

Civil.

Where will you hold your ceremony?

I kind of see it somewhere where there’s lots greenery and open spaces. Somewhere picturesque.

Where will you hold your reception?

We’ve still not decided.

How many guests will you invite to your wedding, and do you have a separate evening guest list?

I’d love to invite everyone, but it’s more likely it’ll be a later afternoon wedding with evening do. But, Sara will definitely get a mention in the speeches!

Will your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?

I want it to be relaxed and not mega formal so the particulars haven’t been decided yet. I know what I like but I’ve not decided on anything just yet. Although I do want it to be in the next eighteen months!
