How and when did you meet?
Lee and I worked together for approximately two years on opposite shifts. Lee was told by some of his friends not to even bother asking me out as I was way out of his league but after me leaving the company and moving onto a new job, I got myself a small flat and discovered a few weeks later that Lee lived in the block of flats behind me. One Saturday morning on my way home from work, I saw Lee leaving his flat, I said a quick ‘hi, how are you?’ and continued on my way thinking to myself how very good looking he is with his dark spikey hair and sexy smile. That evening a friend came round to see me and I told her that I’d seen Lee and since then could not stop thinking about him. Monday morning soon came round, back to work as normal. I switched on my mobile and a text message came through ‘ Do ya fancy going out for a drink tonight, Lee’. I could not believe it, I of course texted back a few hours later, (keep him waiting a bit) and accepted. We went to a local pub and that, so they say, is history. We’ve been together for two and a half years now.
How old are you both?
I’m 26, Lee is 27.
Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
At home, Saturday night the 19th March at approximately 11 o’clock (1 week before Easter). Lee told me he had Easter egg upstairs for me if I wanted it early, eventually he convinced me to get it and open it, and on doing so the velvet green box with my ring inside fell out. Lee said those famous words ‘will you marry me?’ I screamed ‘YES’.
Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?
Lee went on a ‘lads’ night out in our town (Friday night) and I went into town on the Saturday night with 12 of my friends all dressed up with wands, tiaras, willy straws and whistles.
How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
Lee was a great help, not only with ideas and hands on craft work that needed to be done but he was very supportive to me.
Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
I bought my confetti products online.
Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
My dress was a Maggie Sottero, Scarlet Red, full length A-line gown with a diamante brooch that gathered up material to sit on the hip. The dress was purchased from Proposals Bridal in Grimsby.
Did you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
My niece, Rebecca, and three family friends, Kayleigh, Sophie and Jade. Rebecca and Jade wore full length dresses, an ivory bodice with gold embroidery and a gold tulle skirt and ivory shoulder cape and ivory dolly bag. Sophie and Kayleigh wore full length gold strapless evening gowns with matching gold stole and gold beaded bag.
Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
For his best man he chose Jamie King, an old friend from School, and the usher was David Hyman, my brother-in-law.
Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
Religious Ceremony.
Where did you hold your ceremony?
St Lawrence’s Church, Scunthorpe.
Where did you hold your reception?
The Wortley House Hotel, Scunthorpe.
Did you have any special wedding transport?
No, just used Lee’s mum’s car as we only live five minutes from church and the reception venue.
How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
50 to the ‘day’ reception and an additional 150 to the evening party.
Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Scarlet red, ivory and roses. Very simple, no frills, lace, etc.
How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?
We chose tall, clear, glass vases filled with ivory rose peals and iridescent beads and red heart sprinkles scattered across the tables.
Did you give your guests favours?
Yes, we chose plain ivory favour boxes which we decorated with ivory satin ribbon to give the effect of a wrapped gift. We placed a single red paper rose in the middle and filled with red foil covered heart chocolates and love heart sweets.
Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
I carried a silk hand tied bouquet of 50 scarlet red roses.
What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
Our guests had a choice of melon or soup to start, roast beef or turkey for main and chocolate torte or apple pie for dessert.
What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?
A simple three tiered square cake. The bottom tier was fruit which my mum made, the middle tier was chocolate sponge and the top tier was plain sponge, iced in ivory with a slight gold shimmer. Each tier was off-center almost like steps curving around a corner. It was finished off with spray of red roses and ivy handmade out of icing, trailing down and around the side of the cake.
Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
We had a magician come to entertain us after we had our meal. He was a work colleague of ours – Rolando’s world of magic and a disco for the evening and as a special treat our bridesmaid, Sophie, sang to us. It was a LeAnne Rimes song – “Looking through your eyes.”
Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
Not as such. We asked for Thomas Cook holiday vouchers or money as we already live together and have all the things we need in our home.
Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
We had booked the Bridal Suite at the Wortley House Hotel and went into Thomas Cook on the Monday after the wedding and booked to go to the Dominican Republic to fly the very next day.
What was your most memorable moment of the day?
Saying my vows to the man I love.
Did you experience any ‘nightmare’ moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
My hairdresser cancelled five days before the wedding so I had a panic trying to find another at such short notice but all turned out ok.
Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
I wouldn’t change our wedding day for the world. The only advice I can give is don’t get so wrapped up in spending so much to please everyone else, it’s yours and your partner’s day and you are the only two people that really matter. Try to take in as much as you can during your day, even if it means having a moment at the side of the room looking at everything that is going on as the day just flies by and also have your day taped by a friend or relative if you can’t afford to have it professionally done. It’s amazing looking back and being able to re-live your day over and over again.
