Kelly and Marcus’ Real Life Wedding

Kelly and Marcus

03/06/2006 – Pendennic Castle in Falmouth, Cornwall

Kelly and Marcus' wedding photos   How and when did you meet?
We met at school when we were 11. We shared some of the same classes and were friends from about 15 years old but never anything else.

Where, when and how did he (or you!) propose?
On holiday in Tunisia. He proposed one evening in the indoor swimming pool (we had no restaurants around us and the hotel restaurant shared tables with everyone and anyone!) We always had the pool to ourselves after dinner, soft music always played and the lights dimmed- for a pool, it was very romantic! We had it to ourselves for an hour after the proposal so that was nice too!

Did you have hen and stag celebrations? If so, what did you do?
He went to London which was a disaster for him so it was moved to Cornwall the evening before. I had a few days in Spain with my closest friends then a big night out in Truro with old friends and family.

How did your groom help with the wedding planning?
When I asked him to choose between two ideas that I had! He he! He didn’t really get involved except on the place and hotel and vows- but I loved the planning as I was extra chuffed on the day when it all went how I’d planned!

Did you use confetti to plan your wedding? If so, how did the website help you?
Yes, very much. The sale board in the forums and the Bride part where you can ask any questions! I used the store for some table items.

Do you have a confetti web page?
Yes.

Did you buy any confetti products for your wedding? If so, did you visit a store, buy online or by mail order?
I visited the store on a trip to London- loved it!!

Tell us about your outfit, and where you bought it
I wore an a-line Paloma Blanca dress in ivory with a large pleat down the front and detailing over the bodice part although it was a one piece.

you have bridesmaids? If so, who did you choose and what did they wear?
I had five bridesmaids- my three best mates, Louisa, Tina and Louise, and my god-daughter and her sister. They wore burgundy dresses and looked beautiful.

Who did your groom choose for his best man and ushers, and what did they wear?
The groom chose his brother, Jason, and our best friend, Ross, so we had two. They wore black suits with cream waistcoats and burgundy ties- the groom wore a RAF uniform.

Did you have a civil or religious ceremony?
Civil.

Where did you hold your ceremony?
Pendennic Castle in Falmouth, Cornwall.

Where did you hold your reception?
Falmouth Beach Resort Hotel.

Did you have any special wedding transport?
Yes, a white limo.

How many guests did you invite to your wedding, and did you have a separate evening guest list?
60 for the wedding and 100 to the evening do.

Did your reception have a particular theme in terms of colour or style?
Burgundy and cream.

How did you incorporate this in to your table settings?
Burgundy petals, cream candles and bowls and cream wedding trivia and other items/cameras.

Did you give your guests favours?
Yes, in burgundy favour bags with Ferrero Roche inside-my fav!

Describe your flowers (bouquets and table decorations). Who was your florist?
A shower of calla lilies. I did not have flowers on my tables but had them at the castle- Jane Adele in Truro did those for me!

What did you choose to have on your menu? Did you have an outside caterer or did your venue handle the catering?
The venue handled the catering. We had tomato and basil soup followed by roast beef and profiteroles or fruit salad for dessert. I’m a fussy eater so I stuck to traditional! After all I needed to enjoy it!

What did you choose for your wedding cake, and who made it?
I had a three tiered cake with gold writing around it, saying “to have and to hold” around each tier. The top and middle layers were sponge and the bottom was fruit.

Did you have any entertainment during the day or evening?
Yes, a disco at night.

Did you have a gift list? If so, who did you have your list with?
No, we asked for Thomson vouchers for our honeymoon.

Where did you spend your first night and honeymoon? Who did you book your honeymoon with?
Our first night was at the hotel in the honeymoon suite then we traveled up to London. We stayed in Devon and then spent a night in London before flying to Antigua and onto St. Maarten. Antigua was wonderful. We stayed at Galley Bay and were very lucky as we had our own private plunge pool.

What was your most memorable moment of the day?
The walk up the aisle. I was dreading it. I was so emotional to the run up!

Did you experience any ‘nightmare’ moments in the run up to your wedding or on the day?
Yes! The cake couldn’t be delivered and when it finally was, it looked as though a 4 year old had decorated it. The hotel was great and the pastry chef re-iced it for me. The disco man cancelled but I managed to get another and the biggest! We traveled down towards Cornwall for the wedding from Scotland. It was a 12 hour drive and six hours into it, we realise I had forgotten the most vital box with pressies and more importantly, the rings! Whoops!

Is there anything you would do differently, or any advice you would give to other brides?
No, the day was so perfect. Everyone says to try and take moments out but it still goes so fast and you wish you could do it over within weeks!
