Bride and Groom… Louise and Thomas

Wedding date… Thursday 4th July 2013

We met… Through my cousin Neil, who is Thomas’ best friend. We first met in a bar and continued a friendship for the next few years before getting together.

The proposal… Thomas planned a weekend away in Edinburgh as a surprise. We were staying in the Caledonian Waldorf Astoria Hotel. With the Edinburgh Castle in the background Thomas got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.

We knew it was “the one”… Louise, “I knew Thomas was “the one” from the beginning. I instantly fell for him and knew that he was very special.” Thomas, “I knew Louise was “the one” after the first night we met, as I told her cousin that night “one day I will marry your cousin”.”

Length of engagement… 6 months

Our wedding photographer was… Chantal Lachance-Gibson. Chantal was fantastic, not only were the photographs amazing but she made us feel very special throughout the whole process.

How did Confetti.co.uk help in your big day? I love the articles, ideas and real weddings and I found the website really helpful when we were planning our own.

My dress was… by Enzoani Couture Bridal. I knew my dress was the one from my mum’s reaction. This was exactly what I imagined myself wearing. When I tried on the veil I felt that it made it even more special. After finding my dress I couldn’t wait to go back to the bridal shop with my bridesmaids to show them.

Our wedding ceremony was… Held at our local parish church Holy Trinity and All Saints. We had a Catholic wedding ceremony with 120 day guests and a further 60 guests for the evening reception.
Louise, “My most memorable moment was when I was walking down the aisle with my dad to meet Thomas at the altar. I couldn’t wait to marry Thomas.”
Thomas, “My most memorable moment was the first time I saw Louise at the altar, she really did take my breath away.”

Our reception was… held at the Popinjay Hotel. We chose the Popinjay Hotel because we were really impressed with the size and appearance of the ballroom; the room was spacious enough for the number of guests we were having, and the windows overlooking the lovely gardens made the room look bright. The location was also relatively close to our home town and there was accommodation for us and our guests.

Our bridesmaids were… my sister Laura and my best friend Lisa.

Our groomsmen were… Neil and Paul.

Our wedding theme was… Purple with a very subtle hint of lace and pearl. My bridesmaids wore purple and the venue was decorated with purple chair ties and table decorations. Our tables were New York themed as we were going to New York for the first part of our honeymoon. We also had a guest tree where the guests left their thumb prints on the branches with their name written underneath their print.

Our wedding was special because… our favours added a very personal and special touch. They were bought to support Prostate and Breast Cancer as my dad has been diagnosed with Prostate Cancer and a few members of our close family have also battled Breast Cancer.

Our first dance was… Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls, our band was amazing.

Our favourite part of the wedding was... We loved the whole day from start to finish. We were on cloud nine all day and just couldn’t stop smiling.

Did anything funny or unusual happen at your wedding? Our best man was discovered sleeping in the hotel reception at 3am, he definitely enjoyed himself.

Our honeymoon was… a five day trip to New York and then the Riviera Maya, Mexico for 10 nights. We would definitely recommend both places as they were amazing and completely different experiences.

What is your advice for other brides? Relax and enjoy every minute of the build-up and the big day. It really does go by so quickly.
