After September 11th all trips to New York where greatly reduced, so when we sawan offer we decided to go. Terry booked it, but the only time left to go wasFebruary 13th. We arrived and shopped and on Valentine’s Day we decidedto go up the Empire State Building. At breakfast Terry was very quiet and Inearly started wishing we hadn’t come. At the Empire State Building therewas security and Terry was beeping every time he went through the barrier. Ihung around watching and waiting as he went to and fro, and then after I turnedmy back he appeared. We went up to the top and had a good look around and after 20 mins Terry turned and said, “I know its predictable and everything, being on top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day but…will you marry me?” Icouldn’t believe it as I had waited 3 years for this. Ihugged him so much and then realised I hadn’t even seen the ring or saidyes. The ring was beautiful and I said, “Yes”. After realising what had justhappened I burst into tears and cried for 20 mins. Then a french reporter came along because she was doing stories of true love. It was while Terry was talking that I discovered the whole thing had been a setup and he had been planning it for months. We could have gone to NY anytime. The reason hecouldn’t get through security downstairs was becasue he had put thering in his pocket and did not want to get it out with me watching. It wasall so perfect and I couldn’t have wished it to be any better. We areplanning our wedding for June 2003 in a Palmhouse in Liverpool.
