OK, I met Paul in April of 1998, but we didn’t start going out until October. In March 1999, I received a phone call from him and he was smashed out of his mind!!He said, “I’ve got a secret and I am not going to tell you!”I replied, “OK then!” Then he said, “It involves us going away and coming back engaged.” He never could keep a secret for very long. Even at Christmas, he told me what my presents were before I opened them!Anyway, in June 1999, we went off to Toronto for a little break. I thought this is it, he is going to ask me this week. I was on edge the whole time, but Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday passed…and not a single “Will you marry me?” Thursday night came and we went up the Toronto tower for a romantic meal. This has got to be it, I thought. But no! So, I gave up and stopped expecting him to ask me every five minutes. Saturday was our last day. A bell boy came to the room and asked me to follow him…I thought we couldn’t pay the hotel bill or something. He took me to a taxi and I got in. I asked the taxi driver where we were going and he said, “It’s a surprise”….I started to grin! At last, we arrived at what looked like an air base. Paul was stood there with some headphones on, clutching a pair for me…then the helicopter landed and we got in. We flew over Niagara Falls, then Paul shouted, “WILL YOU MARRY ME?” as we went past Horseshoe Falls! It was lovely, I cried…mostly with relief!
