August 5th 2001 was the most wonderful night of my life. We were in Weymouth. Max was doing a play on board a theatre boat, which was docked in the harbour. It was the day before my thirtieth birthday. He took me to a beautiful restaurant but told me we had to be somewhere at 9.15. We finished dinner and he led me across the bridge and up some steps and then produced a bottle of champagne and two glasses, which he’d been hiding all night. Suddenly the whole of the harbour was filled with the sound of Eva Cassidy ("Somewhere Over the Rainbow," our song). It was coming from the boat. He then told me to look in the direction of the boat and there, hanging over the side, was a six-foot fire drawing of the words " marry me." He then produced a ring and said, " Well, will you?" How could I refuse? As soon as the ring was on my finger his mates on the boat let off a shower of fireworks and everyone strolling round the harbour looked up and cheered as we kissed. What a wonderful story to tell our children! We’re getting married on the 11th of May.
