We arrived in Sorrento for our first proper holiday together, although being together for three years. Our hotel was situated on the cliff face and overlooked the Bay of Naples, with Capri in the distance and shadowed by Mount Vesuvius.
It was our first night there and we watched the sunset whilst drinking cocktails on the veranda, followed by a gorgeous meal in the hotels’ restaurant overlooking Capri. It was amazing. After dinner, we went back out onto the Veranda to drink more cocktails. A string quartet were playing music (because there was a hotel gala evening taking place down on the bathing platform below us), Jim asked me to dance with him, so we moved to a quiet place on the patio and danced on the balcony above the sea crashing on the rocks below (it was like something out of Mills & Boon!). He asked me if I was happy and I replied that I thought I couldn’t be happier. He smiled at me and took my hand and got on one knee, he said it would make him as happy as me if I’d be his wife and handed me this beautiful ring. I cried my eyes out (of course I said ‘Yes’). When he got to his feet and cuddled me, as if on cue, the fireworks from the gala evening below launched into they Sky and just made the moment of his proposal even more romantic and perfect. I don’t think I’ve ever been that happy. It was amazing. It was something out of a fairytale.
It couldn’t have been planned better, if I’d done it myself!
