Sally and David Real Engagement Story

After a letter out of the blue, sweet limericks via e-mail and a big snog in a nightclub, Dave and I finally got together after knowing each other for about a year. I met him when my son was about two weeks old, at a house-warming party. From the first night that we got together, I knew that Dave was going to be my husband. I didn’t love him then, but I knew that I was going to and that I would for the rest of my life.

After a month or so, Dave and I started talking seriously about getting married and I started making the wedding stationery – despite no proposal! My friends laughed, but Dave just helped me as we chatted about kids, finances and where we would live. On the 1st of June, whilst shopping in Marks and Spencer in Guildford, I popped upstairs to buy some underwear, whilst Dave and our little boy, Reuben, known as ‘Roo,’ stayed downstairs. Dave was kneeling down, chatting to Roo when I came back down to show him my new stuff. He told me that before we went for our lunch and while he was on bended knee, he needed to ask me something. It took about two seconds for me to realise what he was doing. I covered my face with my hands while I heard him tell me that he loved me more than he ever thought he could, that I was everything he had wanted and prayed for in a woman – and more – that he wanted to protect me, encourage me and grow old with me. He said he wanted to have more children with me and to face all that life had to throw at us together. Then he asked if I would marry him. I said, "Yes" and gave him a big kiss and he held me, at which point, various members of the shopping public smiled and pointed, they didn’t clap, but Roo did!

Dave and I are getting married in our church in Bracknell on Saturday 8th February 2003. I am so excited and so proud that I will be his wife.
