My engagement certainly took me by surprise. We were on holiday in Florida this year 2001 and on our third day we went to MGM Studios. It was a very hot day and we went on and off the rides all day. The time got to about 3.30.pm and Darren, my fiancé, asked if he could go on The Tower of Terror. I didn’t really want to because we had been on it twice that day and I was hot and tired. But eventually Darren persuaded me to go on.
This ride is quite scary and the build up is intense. It’s a 13 story lift ride that drops 4 or 5 times. We had got in the lift and to the top of the ‘hotel’ and were just about any second to enter the "Twilight zone", when I heard this voice say "Sarah will you marry me?" And then we dropped and I remember saying "Yeeeeeeessssss".
When we got off the ride at the bottom I was in tears and shaking. Darren handed me a box and it had my beautiful ring inside. He then took me to one side, sat me down and got down on one knee and proposed. He had also arranged for some champagne in the hotel room and we went out to celebrate that night at Pleasure Island and Planet Hollywood. That so far, apart from the day I met Darren, is the BEST day of my life. We are getting married 8th June 2002 in Brighton and I can’t wait!
Darren always said he would surprise me and ask when I wasn’t expecting it and he was right!
