Eugene and I met on the Internet on Boxing Day 2001; we met in person on 15th February 2002. Even before we met in person, we both knew that something special was happening.
We had been together about a year when the subject of engagement came up and we decided that one day in the next few years we would get engaged but nothing was made definite.
At a family party, celebrating a silver wedding anniversary, in the summer of 2003 Eugene turned to me and said "I think we should get engaged next Christmas…" It was the best thing I’d ever heard!
So, we started having a browse for rings – he wanted me to choose one that I loved. I’d always had my heart set on a round-cut single diamond solitaire style ring, simple but beautiful. So we concentrated on looking at that style.
Eugene was browsing the internet one day when he found a ring on a website and he emailed me a picture just asking what I thought…
It was a square-cut half carat single diamond set in white gold on an 18 carat gold ring.
As soon as I saw it, I knew that ring was ‘the one.’ No other ring we had looked at had made me think ‘I really want that one…’ It was just so beautiful, I wanted a ring to symbolise what we have together and that ring just said it for me.
So, he bought that one (he bought it on his birthday… said it was the most expensive birthday he had ever had!)
Christmas morning we woke up, I couldn’t wait! I love Christmas anyway but knowing what was about to happen made it even better.
Eugene took the ring out of its box, and we cuddled up into bed and he said "Would you do me the honour of being my wife…?" I said "Yes" and he put the ring on my finger.
It was great visiting everyone… "Happy Christmas, lets see your ring…" I just felt so proud.
We set a date this summer (incidentally we decided at a family wedding) for the 23rd August 2008. It’s a long way off yet but I’m getting prepared and I know it will be the happiest day of my life.
