"I just got the giggles which made him more nervous"
My fiancé Gary proposed to me this summer in San Francisco. I still get goose bumps telling people that we got engaged in San Francisco! We’d talked about getting married a lot before, but we had been together for four years and were only 21so it felt like it was a long way off.
We decided to spend the day exploring the Golden Gate Park and had a really brilliant morning just having a giggle with no worries in the world. So when he stopped me and looked at me I thought he was just going to give me another crafty kiss! Instead he held me really close and tight and was physically shaking. He told me how much he loved me and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and I just got the giggles which probably made the poor bloke more nervous. He then asked me if I would marry him. I said of course I would! There was no one around and we really wanted a photo of the moment so we held the camera at arm’s length and now have a photo of our faces all scrunched up but with huge smiles!
We then carried on exploring the park and got caught by a grass sprinkler. In an attempt to save me from a soaking, Gary grabbed my left hand and ran. In doing so he cut my wedding finger just below the nail and drew blood! I couldn’t believe that on the day I was to finally try on and buy my engagement ring my fiancé had scarred my wedding finger! We went shopping for a ring the same day and I was desperate to tell every person we saw that we were engaged.
We didn’t want to tell our family and friends until we could tell them in person, which was very hard, but it was also a great feeling that we were the only two people in the world who knew!
We’re not getting married until 2006 and are having a wonderful time just enjoying being engaged and dreaming about our big day
