Oli is my first and only love. We met at 16 in college and have been inseparable ever since. We had been together for a month when we seriously talked about marriage, we both knew it was right but thought people would not take us seriously. After 6 months we decided that the time was right and Oli proposed one afternoon after college. We both spent the evening crying and being the soppy romantics that we are. We decided not to let anyone know until we had rings, but it was difficult to explain the huge grins on our faces the next day!
The only problem was affording the rings; we both only had Saturday jobs and were too young for credit. I spotted a gorgeous princess cut diamond ring in the window of a local jewellers, but one look at Oli’s face told me he couldn’t possibly afford it. I hated to see him upset so I pretended I liked a cheap cubic zirconium one better instead. I reasoned that maybe he could buy a better ring when we were both older and better off. As I came home from work the next day the ring had gone from the window. I didn’t dare hope that Oli had gotten it for me; he couldn’t afford it. But later on that evening, as we were getting ready to go out, Oli got down on one knee and proposed with the original diamond ring that I wanted.
I’ve never been so happy. We have been together for three years now and sadly our student loans don’t stretch to the cost of a wedding, but we are so happy we don’t care. To this day I cannot believe that I was lucky enough to meet my soul mate at 16, most people thought it was too young, but from the first day that I got with Oli I knew that I would marry him. Now we can look forward to a lifetime together, growing up and growing old!
