I wanted to share my story about my engagement, which I thought was quite unique! Peter and I had been together for almost six years (living together for two) when we decided to go to V98 Music Festival in Chelmsford. Peter got us two VIP tickets, which meant that I didn’t have to queue for the loo and there was an enormous beer tent (guess where we spent most of our time?)I was a bit fed up, ‘cos all my family had decided to spend the Millennium in Maui, Hawaii, and leave me behind. Peter was dragging his feet about going, as he didn’t know what he wanted to do, but he knew that I desperately wanted to go. We were watching The Verve, when Peter turned around and asked, “So shall we get married in Hawaii?” I thought I’d misheard him and he had to repeat the question! Of course, I said yes. But that’s not the end of the story. I had to keep it a secret for two weeks as we wanted to tell Peter’s family together (I am useless at keeping secrets, it nearly killed me!). We announced it at dinner to a table full of dropped jaws and when we told my family, my Mum nearly fainted! Needless to say, our families are extremely excited and we are getting married on the beach on 4th January 2000, in front of 20 family members and friends. The female Reverend who is marrying us (who I found via the Internet) has co-starred in three Elvis movies!! We can’t wait. I am sure it will be a day to remember. And just so as to not disappoint all our other friends and family, we are having a church blessing on 8th July next year – so I get to wear two dresses!
