The groom traditionally toasts the bridesmaids/maid of honour. He may also choose to toast his wife, and his wife will then reply and toast the bridesmaids. He may also toast the hosts, traditionally his new in‐laws, especially if there are no bridesmaids.

‘A wedding is a coming together of two families, and I couldn’t have wished to join a friendlier family than Stella’s, so I’d like to end my speech by thanking our hosts and my new parents‐in‐law, Betty and Stan, for making this such a wonderful occasion. It’s often said that wedding days belong to the happy couple, but there are many people who have helped to make today so perfect. I’d also like to thank my parents, Pauline and Max, for everything they’ve done for us.
