When we think of autumn, we often imagine the gorgeous golden-bronze of forest trees and their bright red and yellow leaves. There’s something magical about falling leaves and their crunching underfoot. Plus the solitude of autumn creates a naturally tranquil backdrop for an autumn woodland wedding theme.

Wedding Colours
Autumn weddings are unmatched by any other for the season’s serenity and beauty, with its golden-bronze woodland leaves, its crisp, cool mornings and its late, warm sunsets. Take these as your colour palette inspiration! Autumnal colours are very rich with reds and browns and yellows, and with a touch of green to echo the leaves still clinging to summer. Add a dash of white or silver to hint at the coming winter. With all of these colours, you have endless possibilities for everything from decoration, stationery, to hair and makeup. Wedding Catering
Autumn, being the season of holidays such as Halloween, is a goldmine for catering ideas from toffee apples and pumpkin pies to spiced cider and cinnamon rolls. Bowls of nuts or fruit or berries, dried or fresh, will look amazing as part of your table decorations or even as cute little wedding favours. For an autumn-inspired wedding cake, a carrot cake with decorative icing and glazed caramel will reflect your theme. Finish the look with a gorgeous cake topper; see our favourites below. And your wedding cake can be autumn-inspired too.

Wedding Decoration
You can get some truly wonderful autumn wedding decoration, especially when you opt for an autumn woodland theme. Incorporate the theme into every aspect of your decoration—tableware, centrepieces, chair decorations, wedding favours, etc. The choice of flowers alone is exceptional with options like copper roses and hydrangeas (see lots of autumn wedding flower ideas in our article, Your Perfect Autumn Wedding Flowers), but you are not limited to flowers. You can also use pine cones painted gold or tipped with glitter, shaped vines and twigs, or even sheaves of wheat or lavender.

Halloween and Bonfire Night, both being part of autumn, offer tons of inspiration for your wedding decorations too. A Halloween-inspired wedding, for example, doesn’t mean you have to pull out the fake spiders and the cobwebs. Before all of the candy and the trick-or-treating it was a celebration called Samhain—a celebration of the harvest season coming to an end. Years ago, some people (namely Gaels and Celts) believed that October 31st was the day when the veil between our world and the next was thinnest. With this in mind, candles and their sweet or spicy scents look stunning in a dim room, tiered high on candelabras or small logs, or floating in bowls of coloured water. And soft, thin drapes of chiffon in pale gold or orange will look magnificent spilling from the walls, hanging from the ceiling or covering the tables.

Wedding Stationery
Wedding stationery, when paired with a woodland wedding theme, can really make a statement. As well as coming in the colour of your choice, you can add your own trims and accessories to give your stationery even more personality. Wrap your guests’ stationery packages in a length of ribbon or an artificial vine, or insert golden-brown autumn leaves in the envelopes. Or you could get creative with some DIY!

Laser cut stationery with tree or woodland decoration is a classic design for your autumn woodland wedding, especially when done in shades of gold, yellow or bronze. If you can’t find the colour scheme you want though, you could insert coloured pieces of paper. As with our laser-embossed and die-cut stationery, the colour of your choice will be visible through trees and branches.
