Monochrome is stylish, classic and sophisticated and when done properly, can be all these things to create an elegant and eye catching theme for your wedding. Nevertheless many couples, are put off by choosing this theme for a summer wedding as the colour black is usually associated as being a winter colour. However, here at Confetti.co.uk we like to break moulds and we want to show you how, when done properly, a monochrome summer wedding can be truly magnificent!
The Black to White Ratio
The key to a monochrome summer wedding is the black to white ratio. In the day you want white to be the dominating tone to ensure that it doesn’t feel too dark and gloomy. Make the base colour of larger items such as the table clothes and floral displays white and accessorise delicately in black.
However, in the evening the venue could be transformed into a glamorous black tie event and black could feature more heavily in your decor and styling.
Bridalwear
Whilst a black wedding dress would certainly make a statement and would look stunning with white lace applique, for a summer wedding this is far too severe. We suggest sticking to a classic ivory or white gown and accessorising with hints of black details such as a sash, shoes, jewellery or delicate lace applique. You could however, change into an elegant black party dress for the evening. After all you can’t have too many LBD’s!!
If you want your bridesmaids in black to contrast against your ivory wedding dress, lighten the look with white accessories in the same way we suggested with the bridal gown.
For the groom you can’t go wrong with a classic black suit and a white flower for the button hole. However a white suit and black tie can look just as effortlessly stylish, as Johannes Hueble proved when he married the beautiful Olivia Palermo!
The Venue
You want your wedding venue to be a neutral as possible. Bright carpets and patterned wallpaper is going to clash with the crisp simplicity of the black and white. Modern venues tend to be more neutrally decorated and marquees are a great option as they are a blank canvas and are just waiting for you to put your own personal stamp on it!
From favours, confetti and drinking straws to cufflinks, guest books and ring cushions, Confetti.co.uk has a wide range of products to help you style your monochrome wedding!
