With the new year freshly started, the bridal magazines, blogs, and websites are awash with predictions on what will be BIG this year in weddings. Inspiration can be found literally anywhere, and weddings are no longer the cookie-cutter affairs of yore, when everything was done according to tradition, and the slightest deviation (the bride wore Doc Martens under her gown – shock horror!) was frowned upon. Nowadays, even when many brides choose something completely individual, there are still key themes that get mentioned by everyone who’s anyone. Here’s our roundup of the most popular trend predictions for 2013!
Great Gatsby
If you haven’t heard about this one, you’be been living under the proverbial rock. With the movie remake due to be released in early 2013, the fashion and styling influencers have been buzzing since the movie went into production. And what’s not to like? The 20s/30s style looks great on almost everyone, and the accessories are to die for!

Strong colours
Judging by the bridesmaid designs appearing on catwalks at bridal shows, the colours for 2012 will be bold and bright! After all, not everyone looks great in pastels – save the soft hues for your tables, and put your girls into some great glam colours!

Love Birds
Quite a few predictions out there for this theme to be very “in” this year – with inspiration appearing all over the internet, and love bird-related items being incredibly popular at the Confetti shop. We love this theme – it can be customised to any colour, it works all year round, and can be a full-on job from stationery all the way to cake topper, or as minimalistic as you like, with only a few token appearances by the love birds.

Mint
This colour seems to be singled out by many style gurus as the strongest trend for 2013 – and we say, rightly so, as it’s incredibly flattering, works with many other colours, and just looks so fresh, especially for spring and summer! It goes with white and ivory without saying, but if you add a touch of peach, pink or blue, you have pure colour sophistication!
Doing it your own way
With the yearly rise in DIY weddings, it’s no longer just about making your own stationery or favours – more and more brides and grooms want truly unique weddings, showing off their personalities and ensuring their guests have a truly memorable day – not just another wedding! The rise in unusual theme colours, trends towards making every table different instead of matchy-matchy, brides wearing unusual shoes (crystal-encrusted Converse sneakers etc), DIY photobooths, and many other great things we have seen in 2012 are now inspiring future brides-to-be to let their personality shine on their big day.
