The sights, sounds, smells and atmosphere of the Mediterranean are truly unique. The warmth of the sun, the fresh colours, the aroma of orange and lemon groves and the vivid pinks of the Bougainvillea against the 18th century walls of a historic Mediterranean Villa, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. What could be better? Villa Bologna takes us through some stunning vintage Mediterranean wedding ideas.
Why not combine the essence of the Mediterranean with genuine period vintage props to theme your wedding day? Zesty oranges and lemons are brilliant to give splashes of colour and smells, both in your table arrangements and mixed in with your flowers. Even baskets of local fruit and lime green foliage work well together.
Little Details
It is the smaller details that can make all the difference. It is a nice touch to find out what the local area may be famous for. Are they producers of any special goods? A vineyard, for example? Lace makers? Ceramics? Fruit growers? Your guests will appreciate seeing some of these local elements perhaps in your décor, giving them an experience of the flavor and culture of the area. It is a nice idea to include flowers or fruit in your table settings, such as in the napkin rings. Tea lights in glass jars and terracotta plant pots placed randomly always look good. Picnic blankets are a nice touch for your guests to stretch out on and relax after dinner.
Wedding favours
The Mediterranean garden has a wealth of fruit and herbs that can make perfect weddings favours. Small pots of home produced orange marmalade and lemon chutneys, or even olive oil, make fabulous natural favours, giving your guests a personal taste of the Mediterranean to take away with them.
Flowers
Use as many different types of containers as are available, old jugs, stone urns, jars, galvanized buckets, etc, filled with flowers. Rusted light fittings and lanterns, old candelabras and iron plant stands lined with moss and full of flowers add a touch of vintage along with rustic elegance to your wedding décor. The sandstone walls provide an ideal background, against which bright coloured flowers stand out beautifully. It is advised in the very hot months to avoid flowers which do not cope very well with the heat.
Most importantly, keep it simple! The magic of the garden and Villa are special and it is usually a good idea not to overdress it and lose the effortless calm and beauty already present. Find hidden features in the gardens to use as interesting backgrounds in your photographs.
Enjoy your Wedding day, and experience the Mediterranean with all your senses!
