Top Tips For Themed Weddings

Traditional wedding themes include the much-loved classic and vintage, but there are many couples who want to push the boat out a little further and theme their wedding around something much closer to their hearts. But, to make this a success, there are a few things you’ll want to consider. Here are Confetti.co.uk’s top tips for themed weddings!

Choosing Your Wedding Theme

The biggie here is to choose a theme that means a lot to you—if it’s a last-minute whim it will show, but, more than that, it may be slightly less special when you look back on the day in months and years to come. Some couples may even want to choose a theme that will date well (one that won’t hang around for only a few months), and for this research is key.

Styling Your Wedding Theme

Themed weddings can cost a lot more than more simplistic weddings, especially if you go all-out with setting the scene. Of course, your theme doesn’t have to spread right across every single element of your wedding day; sometimes only hints work even better. But if you don’t have a large budget and still want a themed wedding right down to the last intricate detail, you should try and find inexpensive ways like DIY to create your vision.

If you have your dream dress already, choose your wedding theme wisely. You may find that the theme you want clashes terribly with your dress. On the other hand, if you don’t have your wedding dress you should try and mould your gown, decor, etc, around your theme for a more cohesive look.

Consider Your Wedding Guests

It’s your wedding day, and you and your partner have every right to theme your wedding in whatever way you want. However, if you want your guests to have as good a time as you, you’ll want to take them into consideration—i.e. don’t serve a menu that’s too unusual and not everyone is going to like, don’t host your wedding in a location that’s very difficult to find and/or is in impractical (especially for older or very young guests), and make sure you give good notice to your guests if you want them to attend your wedding in special-dress.

For special-dress, you could insert the dress code somewhere in your wedding invitations and give help by offering costume ideas and places to buy or rent them from. However, bear in mind that your guests may end up spending more money to attend your wedding if they have to purchase a costume; this may put some people off. Furthermore, remember that some of your guests may be uncomfortable with dressing up, so it’s best to check in with people first. If it’s clear that fancy dress is a problem, offer alternatives at your wedding like a fun photo booth with provided props and costumes, thus allowing your guests to dress how they like while also letting them get into the fancy dress sprit.

Have Fun!

Finally, don’t forget to enjoy yourself—themes are supposed to be fun! So, enjoy!
