Giving the Gift of Wedding Insurance

Wedding insurance is there to cover you from accidents–no matter how small or large–that may occur during wedding planning. The organised bride-to-be prepares for all eventualities including unfortunate accidents, and that’s where wedding insurance becomes vital.

Wedding Insurance

You’ll want the day you get hitched to go down without any hiccups. You’ll spend hours ensuring flyaways won’t spoil your updo, that your dress remains unsoiled and that your mascara doesn’t run and ruin your makeup. While you primp and preen, your team of wedding planners or family and friends will work hard to ensure every decorative detail is in its proper place, that the seating is perfect and the cake is unblemished. Your best man will check and double check his pocket for the rings and your florists will rearrange your blooms until they’re just so.

Perfection, or as very near it as possible, is the focus of your wedding day. But accidents can and do occur. Weddings are rife with oops moments and while some of them may go on to live in a weddings spoof gag reel, you don’t want yours to have that fate. Give yourself and your spouse-to-be the gift of wedding insurance. Wedding insurance can make all the difference in a happily ever after and a ceremony you’d like to forget.

From your bouquet to your cake, your bling to your cars, you can insure every aspect of your wedding. Wedding insurance is not too dissimilar to vehicle insurance, it is a policy that covers you financially if something ruins your day or if your wedding has to be cancelled or postponed.

We like to think of wedding insurance as a gift you can give yourself. After all of the effort and hard work you’ve put into perfecting and executing your ideal day, the last thing you’ll want is to see all that money swept away in a series of unfortunate events!

The Legal Jargon

As with any insurance, there will be caveats and limitations to your policy. Each policy is different, but a good insurance provider (we recommend our good friends at John Lewis) will offer you coverage at any point in your wedding planning and will also allow you to purchase coverage for items you’ve already bought. This one is key and is something you should definitely check, especially if you’ve already made some purchases. Of course, what you can’t do is make a claim for a situation that you already knew about.

Getting Coverage

Don’t get overwhelmed by the idea of taking out an insurance policy, getting coverage is not too difficult! The best place to start is with an idea of the breakdown in coverage your provider offers. For the sake of argument, let’s take a look at John Lewis’s Wedding Insurance Cover Levels.

John Lewis Wedding Insurance Cover Levels

As you can see, coverage ranges from £50 to £5m, meaning you can be certain there’s a level and a type that is best suited for your wedding.

To get a quote for your wedding insurance, you will need to tell John Lewis:

  • Your name and address
  • Your and your spouse-to-be’s name and birth dates
  • If you or your spouse has a pre-existing medical condition
  • The town/city and country where you’d like the wedding and reception held
  • The date and venue for the wedding and reception
  • The amount of cover you’d like to take out.

And while you’re busy booking your insurance policy, don’t forget to register with the John Lewis Gift List for a range of unique gifts to get your marriage journey off on the right foot!
