Lovers of green can have a field day when planning their spring wedding! This time of year, greens burst in abundance in nature and in decor, providing refreshing pops of colour after a dreary, drab winter of stark white and icy temperatures. In celebration of spring and in honour of St Patrick’s Day, here are 11 elegant ideas for green weddings!
From the fresh hued grass green to deep and brooding forest and lovely and light lime, greens come in a variety of shades. A symbol of nature, green is often paired with other rustic features such as weathered woods, textured hessian and sprigs of fresh flowers. Any of these elements would work wonderfully in your green-inspired wedding. Or, go to the opposite extreme and pair your vibrant greens with cool metallics and urban chic items finished with a subtle rim of rust for an edgy, ultra cool theme.
Whether you’re going for a St Patrick’s theme or are simply in love with the colour, this is how you do green stylishly:
Cakes
Your guests will talk about two things after your wedding: how gorgeous you looked strutting down the aisle and the cake. No, seriously, wedding cake is epic and you want to make sure yours is as pretty as it is delicious. Green wedding cakes come in all shapes, sizes and shades, but those above are three of my favourite, handpicked from our My Green Wedding Pinterest board.
Bridesmaids
They’ll be by your side from the moment you shimmy into that beautiful gown until you say ‘I do’! Make sure they look stunning too. You don’t have to dress them from head to toe in glimmering green, but play with varying shades, fabrics and styles to suit each of your maids instead of going down the route of each girl donning the same gown. Cookie cutter bridesmaid dresses are so ’90s!
Groomsmen
The best thing about men at weddings? They rarely make a fuss about what they wear! Take advantage of this opportunity and style your husband-to-be and his fellas exactly how you want them. It’s probably the only day in your life when you’ll have this chance. But beware: not every groom is going to suit a flashy mint green coat, so consider injecting your theme colour into their ties or cravats and other accessories.
Wedding Decor
Consider wedding decor to be the icing on the cake for your venue. Carry your theme through to the tables, props along the reception venue and even the place settings. Point your guests to their seats by using our baroque-inspired frame as a seating chart (show above, left). When they arrive at their seats, welcome them with a green favour knick-knack that’s as sweet as can be (shown above, right)!
Invitations & Stationery
Your invitations will be the first glimpse of your theme your guests will get. Whether you go for bold green with our Perfect Peacock range or keep it simple and sweet with our Woodland Pretty stationery, sprinkle a bit of your chosen colour into your correspondence to tie everything together.
Food
There’s no need to go fully veggie to get green grub for your guests! Of course a fresh vegetable salad is a great option for spring, but you can also have your caterer wrap crispy prosciutto around asparagus spears or tenderstem broccoli for a delicious canape. Find your dream caterers now.
Florals & Succulents
Your wedding and reception will be littered with flowers, from the bouquet you’ll tote down the aisle to decorative arrangements and centrepieces on tables and around the venue. You can repeat the theme of your bouquet or you can opt to mix it up by choosing flowers that compliment it. One hot trend for spring weddings is the use of succulents; find a quirky way to incorporate these beautiful plants into your wedding.
Shoes
What’s that peeking from underneath your ivory dress? A pair of mint green court shoes? Love it! Repeating your colour scheme as a pop colour in your outfit is one of the best ways to incorporate green into your big day! Whether you’re going for deep, forest-inspired hues or light pastels, wear green on your feet for a fun, lighthearted look.
Wedding Favours
Give your guests green wedding favours so they can take some of the colourful magic home with them! The beauty of wedding favours is they can be whatever you’d like. Take the theme of your wedding literally and supply your guests with seeds for growing their own green garden (shown above, left) or package your favourite sweeties or classic candied almonds into chic green boxes (shown above, middle).
Venues
Fancy saying ‘I do’ in a lush garden? I’ve handpicked some of the prettiest gardens in the UK where you can do just that! We all know the weather in the UK at springtime can be up and down, but if you’re lucky enough to score a sunny wedding day, there’s no better way to enjoy the warmer climes than by milling about in a beautiful garden! Don’t get caught up in thinking you have to head to the countryside to enjoy nature’s best; you’ll find some luxurious gardens in urban areas such as The Roof Gardens in bustling London (shown above, middle)!
Transport
A green getaway car is the perfect way to embark on your married life with your new spouse! Pile in after you’ve boogied the night away and reflect on your amazing day! Have your chauffeur park the car outside the venue so everyone can get a gander at your green wheels; plus, it makes a perfect photo opp.
